Well water protects the household

Groundwater wells can be a goldmine. But where is the hole really worthwhile? And how can the water be used?

Flowers, vegetables, meadows and trees: Anyone who owns a large garden without a well can sing a song about expensive tap water. Especially in hot summers irrigation with drinking water often burdens the household budget with several hundred euros. Wastewater costs are incurred, no matter whether it flows back into the sewage system or seeps into the ground. And from a purely ecological point of view, the noble water from the pipe for Kohl, Halm and Co. is pure waste anyway.

A groundwater well is the alternative in the garden and offers even more advantages. With a suitable filter system, the self-generated water can also be used for cistern, washing machine and for cleaning. If a drinking water analysis also provides the safety certificate, the well water is also good for drinking, cooking or bathing.

Groundwater: Good Reasons and Counter-Arguments

But well drilling is by no means free as the groundwater. First, a soil survey should be made to clarify how deep drilling needs to be done. In addition, it is necessary to determine the soil condition. Because it depends on which techniques and tools are needed. Such a soil survey plus drinking water analysis can easily cost a thousand euros or more. However, it saves time-consuming and cost-intensive failures.

In addition, a deep-drilling permit must be obtained from above. Responsible are the city or municipal administration or the lower water authority. Here, the regulations vary from state to state: Here is sufficient a message, there are required reports and certificates. In order to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy, it is worthwhile to ask the local specialist companies. Often they take over the construction as well as the formalities.

Drilling, shafts: well is not the same well

Remains the question of what kind of wells should be created: a simple manhole well or, for example, a well. For the former, only the soil has to be excavated to the groundwater. The upper end remains open. The disadvantage is dirt from the surface that gets into the water. Therefore, the shaft well water is only suitable for the plants. Cleaner is the cool water from the closed borehole: Here, a pipe is driven to a water vein and pumped up the unsmoked water. However, these and other types of wells can hardly be built without helpers: their labor and material costs are to be taken into account in any case. The safest way to drive - that is drilling or digging - is to compare the offers of local well construction companies.
