Roof edge for the garden hut - Opportunities
A garden hut needs a waterproof roof. The roof edge is a crucial moment here and must be planned by the do-it-yourselfer.
Since the garden shed and often also the carport are made of wood, the do-it-yourselfer must provide moisture protection when roofing. Otherwise the wood pulls water and starts to rot in no time. The design of the roof edge is a decisive criterion for preventing rot.
The right edge trim and the eaves plan ensure effective sealing. Bitumen membranes are one of the most common roof coverings on garden sheds and carports and can be installed watertight over ridge and gable.
Welded bitumen jacket for the roof edge
Anyone who uses bituminous membranes for welding will find it very easy to seal roof edges.
Attention: The edge sheeting should be at least five centimeters at the top and the same at the bottom of the roof. In the case of a pent roof, it is therefore important that the planks of both roof surfaces are each about five centimeters above the substructure.
Caution: It is best to completely "board" this gable inside as moisture protection.
Cover the roof ridge with bitumen shingles
While do-it-yourselfers only have to cover flat roofs at the four visible edges, roof rafters require an additional ridge covering. This cover is double-decked.
The ridge shingles must adequately cover the last rows of shingles on both sides. Cut the sheets of the roofing felt into rectangular single shingles. In this case too, welding tracks ensure a closer grip of the shingle.

Corrosion-free edge profiles as a visually attractive alternative
As an alternative to bituminous membrane cladding, the roof edges of a garden shed on the gable and ridge can also be clad with corrosion-resistant metal. The easiest way to do this is to use special metal profiles that are slightly stronger than the edges themselves. That looks more beautiful, but beware of the consequences: Anyone who wants to create a gutter for optimal drainage can have problems with such edge protection measures.
Garden planning over the disguised gable of the garden hut
Whether garden house or carport: It is worth mounting a eaves on both constructions. It ensures optimum roof drainage. Eaves consist of eaves moldings for the margins and the actual eaves parts. Both should consist of corrosion-protected material and should project beyond the edge of the roof by about ten centimeters.
For the eaves, make sure that the edges are bent downwards.
