Paint on plastic plaster - Noteworthy
Plastic plaster can be designed in a number of ways and painted without any major problems. Pre-treatment is required before painting.
Special feature of plastic plaster
Plastic plasters (synthetic resin plasters) are dispersions. It is a mixture of several substances, which are usually distributed in a liquid medium. As a rule, these are acrylates with a supplement of sand, thickener and auxiliaries. Mineral plasters do not contain any plastic components.
Plastic plasters are easier to process and cure faster. The viscoelastic material can be thinner than other types of plaster and does not tend to crack.
There are plasters available in various colors. The application is carried out by spraying or with a smoothing trowel, with roller plaster then creates a special structure with a facade scooter. The castors are available in different versions.
The plaster is particularly suitable for outdoor use because it is weather-resistant. The disadvantage is the low permeability to water vapor. For indoor use, the material makes little sense, as it can emit chemicals.
Brushing the plaster
Normally, homeowners choose a pigmented synthetic resin plaster if they want to make the house wall colorful. A coat shortly after applying the plaster is rather unusual.
The durable plaster is usually stable for decades. Often, the color does not like after a long time or it is dirty. The plaster can be redesigned by painting. It is not necessary to plaster new, as long as the existing plaster is not damaged.
For painting, all water-based façade paints such as acrylic or silicone resin paints are suitable. Even modern products with lotus effect adhere to the plastic plaster.
What to look for when painting
The facade must be clean and free of grease. A high pressure hot cleaner is required for cleaning. Important: The silicone joints on windows and doors must be undamaged. The steam must not get behind the plaster.
After cleaning, a coat with a solvent-free deep base is necessary. This should belong to the system of the chosen color.
Ideally, as a second layer, coat primer mixed with the color in a one to one ratio. This creates a perfect bond between the plaster and the paint. Finally, another coat of pure facade paint is applied.
Many homeowners report that the paint adheres to the plaster without primer. This is possible in principle, but there is a great risk that the paint will peel off months or years after painting. This does not happen if Tiefengrund is used.
