Light sets mood - impulses for biorhythm and well-being
The type of light in the living room contributes to well-being and performance. Lighting is more important than many people think.
All living things are affected by light. This applies to plants, animals and humans. It fulfills three functions: Without light man can see nothing, everyone knows this function. Less well known is that light sets the internal clock, the circadian system, and provides emotional stability.
The effect of light on living things
Every human being is subject to a biorhythm that controls sleep and waking phases. The performance increases in the morning until about 10 clock, then drops slightly and rises after 12 clock to 18 clock, then sinking significantly. This allows people to work during the day and sleep at night.
Without light, the internal clock changes. The power curve shifts arbitrarily or flatten altogether. The infradiane rhythm decreases the performance in winter. During this time, people tend to have a dull mood and even depression.
How light affects the body
The organism knows only one way to orientate itself in the course of the day or the year - the light. Since the cells are unable to see, they are controlled by centers in the brain, which produce hormones depending on the light.
In the morning, bright light produces cortisol. This substance makes you more alert and increases your concentration. The light stimulus also ensures the release of serotonin, which brightens the mood. Without light, the organism forms melatonin. This hormone makes you tired. During sleep, people reduce this substance, so you are rested and awake in the morning.
Adjusting the lighting of nature
The body can not simply be "cheated" with artificial light. Only light that resembles daylight has an effect on the production of hormones. It must illuminate a room as large as possible and come from above and from the front. Good light illuminates a room, as a sky provides light on a bright day.
White daylight encompasses the full spectrum of light from ultraviolet to infrared. A light can be bright, have the hue and warmth of daylight, but hardly affect the organism. Only artificial light that offers this full spectrum has a positive effect on the body.
The proportion of light colors differs in daylight. It contains more blue light than other colors. The ideal lighting is large and consists of full-spectrum lamps with an increased blue content.
Only natural-light daylight lamps, known as true-light, are beneficial. These are available as LED and energy-saving lamps and are indispensable for the basic lighting of a room.
Spotlights that illuminate the ceiling are ideal for large-scale room lighting. If the ceiling is illuminated with True-Iight lamps, the light reflected by it has daylight quality. This type of room lighting is the alpha and omega of lighting effects on the organism.
Clever home and work lighting solutions
High levels of blue are important. It makes no sense to randomly distribute colorful or blue light in rooms. It's not about seeing blue light, but creating a white light spectrum with a bluish glow. For this, in addition to using the right light source, it is important to set up the rooms.
The light is ideally reflected by a bright ceiling. Dark colors absorb light and are therefore unfavorable. Browns and reds eliminate the blue component of a daylight lamp. If you do not want to miss out on these colors when setting up, you should make sure that blue light is leveled out. A blanket tinted in bright blue or a blue spotlight illuminating it suffices.
Intelligent lighting solutions adjust the light intensity to the changing lighting conditions outdoors. The light is controlled in intensity, heat and blue content by computer programs and simulates a normal daily routine outdoors. On request, controls are possible that keep you awake, increase concentration, or that create an evening mood to calm you down.
At workplaces and in private households, in addition to the basic lighting of the entire room, individual solutions for individual areas are required. This is how a light alarm clock provides a good and natural start to the day as you simulate a sunrise. Desk lamps with bright bluish light enhance performance in tedious office work.
Colored LEDs and colorful light tubes, on the other hand, have a decorative character, and they do not matter in terms of well-being. Their intensity is too low.
