The construction of your own garage requires detailed planning. The foundation is an important element and requires a precise calculation. Once the construction permit is in place, planning and implementation can begin. A tool list, a financing plan and a timetable of the work to be done are indispensable. If necessary, helpers should be notified early enough.
2. Preparing for the Foundation of the Garage
The right materials and tools are available in every hardware store or in specialist shops. Not only is the material required for the construction of the garage, but also for the foundation and excavation. Preparation involves staking out the foundation size. This simplifies the work. Helpful are long squared timbers and a string that separates the construction area and displays the height of the desired foundation.
3. Straightening the Ground
Before laying the foundation, soil must be straightened. Otherwise, a further work is almost impossible. The area of the excavation corresponds to the area of the later base plate. Most suitable is a depth of at least 80 centimeters. If the depth is too small, consequential damage is to be expected in winter. Thereafter, a gravel layer is advantageous, which serves as a filler and prevents moisture. This filling layer is to be compacted and installed. The gravel layer is optimal when mixed with gravel and sand.
4. Making the foundation yourself
Making the foundation yourself requires detailed instructions. Here, construction or masonry professionals can be helpful. A strip foundation is always wider than the wall that is built on it. It's the same with a garage. A strip of the foundation should remain undeveloped. Ready-mixed concrete is the most suitable for garage construction.
5. Do not forget formworks
So that the concrete does not leak out and get a better hold, formwork is placed in the excavation. Here, formwork boards are placed over the bottom edge, which are enclosed in the excavation. The formwork boards have the same height as the later foundation. The formwork can be precisely adjusted with a spirit level.
6. Reinforcing the formwork with steel
To ensure that the garage has a perfect grip, a steel reinforcement is placed on the spacers. This is made of steel and strengthens the foundation. The steel is completely absorbed by the liquid foundation and is no longer visible.
7. Filling the foundation
When the steel is lying, the foundation is poured into the formwork. It must be filled evenly and requires a longer drying time. The exact time can be found in the manufacturer's instructions. If the heat is too high in summer, it is recommended to cover the foundation with a tarpaulin and to water it a bit. So it does not dry too fast and can not crack. After the drying time, the construction of the garage begins.
