Disassemble old sink - these steps are necessary

If an old washbasin is unsightly, it must be replaced with a new one. Dismantling should be done in the correct order.

1. Turn off the water before dismantling.

When renovating the bathroom, an old washbasin usually has to give way. Before replacing, it is important to turn off the tap for the water inlet. The angle valves or shut-off valves should be closed. These are usually located below the basin and serve to feed both the cold and the warm water.

Both close by turning them all the way to the stop. When checking by re-opening and closing, do not allow a drop of liquid to run out of the tap.

2. Precautions for Residual Water Collection

An old washbasin can be removed cleanly if there is a bucket under the basin. This captures possible residual fluid, dirt and soap residue. Dry wipes are best for wiping up remains.

3. Disconnect all connections at the washbasin

Below the basin are the mixer tap with the stopcocks and the connection lines. To break down the connection lines, a large wrench is best. Next, loosen the U-bend on the siphon. To do this, remove the so-called union nut in the siphon with a water pump pliers. Caution, while residual water can escape. Finally, unscrew the drain strainer from the screw in the pool and remove the apparent rod of the mixer tap.

4. Remove the basin

If there is silicone between the sink and the flow, cut it off. This works best with a sharp knife. Then unscrew the existing fastening nuts under the pool.

You may also need to remove an integrated faucet. Remove the pelvis and lift it from the two angles on the wall. Finally, loosen the mixer tap.

5. Dispose of Old Building Material

If an old washbasin is well maintained and in good condition, there are lovers who like to take over. An advertisement on the internet or in the newspaper helps to sell it. To dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way, a porcelain or ceramic basin belongs to the recycling yard.
