Pavilion roof cover - step by step
A pavilion provides a cozy atmosphere. Homebuilding can succeed, but to cover the polygonal roof is a challenge for home improvement.
1. Material Selection - The Right Roof Type for a Pavilion

2. Roof area calculation according to Pythagoras
In order to determine the material requirement, the handyman reaches for the yardstick and measures the roof. In this way he determines the dimensions for eaves and eaves moldings.
For the total area calculation, he takes the root from the height of the roof in square plus the base area in square. From the result, he subtracts the square from the base divided by two. If he pulls the root out of it, he gets the height of a single roof side, which he divides by two. The result is multiplied by the base area and preserves the area of a single roof side. For the total roof area, multiply this single page by the number of pavilion corners.
3. Material requirements determination - consider overlap
The result from the area calculation corresponds to the total roof area. The required cover tarpaulin for the planned work must be around ten centimeters larger than the total roof area. Once again, bitumen shingles are needed in the total roof area by two because the roofing felt is laid overlapping. 4. Fastening the pre-cover tarpaulin and eaves parts to the roof
The handyman screws a matching eaves part at the bottom of each polygon surface. The insulating cover tarpaulin is laid parallel to the eaves over the entire roof surface. He fastens them with nails with a horizontal overlap of ten centimeters above the eaves. The Traufleisten are bolted to the side edges on the Vordeckplane. Do not save on screws and nails. The steeper the roof, the more fastenings are required.
5. Prepare the initial row of bituminous roofing paper
After laying the canopy cover, the do-it-yourselfer nails the beginning row of bitumen cardboard onto the roof of the pavilion. He shortens the shingle fangs in the first row until the end of the leaf incision. The shingle he puts out a few millimeters above the eaves and the edges and in length he cuts by half a tongue. The first row does not hit the next row with the butt joint.
6. Lay the nails with the nails
When mounting, nails should be two centimeters above the blade incisions and two to three centimeters from all sides. All nail heads are flush after a straight hit. Use more nails on steep roofs and do not forget to glue with bituminous glue.
7. Fastening following rows
The following series of roof shingles starts with a complete shingle. The handyman aligns them flush with the starting row. When nailing, he pays attention to the connection to margins and eaves parts. For the second row, he removes half a tongue from the starting shingle. The laying of the series begins at the edge of the page, with the lower end of the tongue lying flush with the sheet cut points of the previous row. Butt joints must not be on top of each other. Therefore, for each additional row, remove half a tab.
8. Covering ridge with single shingles
For a roof with ridge, the last step is the ridge laying. Individual shingle pieces cover the tip waterproof. This is done according to the principle of double coverage. The ridge pieces evenly overlap the connection rows on all sides.
