Connecting bathroom fittings - step by step
The connections of the bathroom fittings are standardized, in principle there are only three different types. The connection of the respective design is always the same.
1. Determine type of bathroom faucets
Showers and bathtubs have faucets attached to the wall via S-connections. There is no need for additional installation and they will stick to the wall as soon as they are connected to the water pipe.
There are two different types of washbasins: high pressure and low pressure fittings. High-pressure fittings are used when the hot water supply is under pressure, for example via the heater or instantaneous water heater. These fittings have two connections. If the warm water is generated in a low-pressure accumulator, a low-pressure fitting with three connections is required.
2. Switch off the water before mounting.
The connection of bathroom fittings to washbasins is done via so-called angle valves. These are small faucets on which the water supply for the sink can be turned off. The skin water tap does not have to be closed.
When connecting all other fittings, it is essential to close the main water tap. This is usually in the basement. If the water needs to be turned off for several residential units, inform all affected parties about the shutdown. The duration of the blockage depends on the number of connections to be mounted. About 30 minutes are required per connection - for safety's sake, it is better to set one hour.
4. Drain Water and Pressure
It is sufficient to open a faucet that sits on the same floor or lower than the faucets to be fitted. The tap remains open during the entire assembly time. If it comes to the replacement of an existing valve, this valve is open.
5. Disassembling the old fittings
The two union nuts should be loosened on the angle valve under the washbasins. The hose connections located in it can now be pulled out. Furthermore, two nuts under the washbasin to be solved, which connect the valve with the basin. Now the old faucet can be pulled off to the top.
For bathtubs or showers, only screw on the two union nuts that sit directly over the rosettes. After turning off the rosettes, the two S-bows are visible.
4. Fitting washbasin faucets to the basin
All faucets for sinks must always be firmly connected to the washbasin first. In the basin is a big hole to perform the flexible hoses and the mounting screws. The following sequence must be observed: The hoses and screws must first be led through a large rubber seal and then through the tank. From below come a crescent-shaped seal and a similarly shaped mounting plate above. Finally, you screw everything with the corresponding nuts.
5. Connecting the faucets
The connection to the angle valves seals automatically via clamping seals. It is sufficient to insert the ends of the hoses coming from the fitting and tighten the union nut.
Low-pressure fittings require only one angle valve, which must be connected to the cold water connection. The two other connections must be connected to the low-pressure accumulator. Which hose belongs to which connection is marked in color.
Bath fittings of baths and showers require no additional fastening. The two new rosettes can be either put over the S-bows or screwed on. Seals are located in both union nuts of the new fitting, which press against the S-bend when screwed on. This concludes assembly.
6. Turn off the water and check for leaks
Something can go wrong with every assembly. Therefore, it is important to have an assistant when hiring the water. This will shut off the water and stop it immediately when in need of spillage.
Important: Examine each port for moisture. If there are drops, turn off the water immediately and check the seals.
